Hasta la vista Sonia! It’s all over for her and the rest

While the final verdict will be given in courts, the investigative agencies under Modi will have to make strong cases and make them fast.

I had written on IndiaFacts earlier on how a lot of behind the scenes, frenetic activity is going on after Prime Minister Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014: And You Thought Modi Was Doing Nothing!

In that I had given a list of 20 personalities who were facing the heat in the new climate created by the Modi regime. If you go through the list, then you will realize that things have only got worse for most of them.

First on the list was Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The National Herald case is in an advanced stage and Sonia has knocked the doors of both the High Court and the Supreme Court and has had to face the sessions’ court like a common accused. While a lot of delaying tactics are going on, it is clear that this case will go to both the HC and SC, irrespective of the verdict. If BJP leader Subramanian Swamy can get a conviction in any one of the three courts, Sonia’s invincibility will be punctured forever.

Swamy is now in the Rajya Sabha and already has Congress MPs scratching their heads in dismay on how to handle him.

While the National Herald case is going on, the AugustaWestland blow was delivered to Sonia. An Italian court gave a verdict and actually named Sonia, her aide Ahmed Patel, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Oscar Fernandez. British consultant Christian Michel has further muddied the pitch by reports that he paid a whopping six million Euros to handle the media! It is just a matter of time before the names of all the journalists come out and we have a new Michelgate scandal to hit the Indian media.

The Enforcement Directorate is also marching ahead in the Choppergate case and that spells really bad news for Sonia and all those whose names have come up in the scam. How many days before a charge sheet will be filed? What all names will come in it? That itself will create a new storm.

The second name on the list was the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. A lot of rumours about him are being floated and none of them are good. For donkeys years Dawood had a home in Karachi and office in Dubai. Now he seems to have lost both. The grapevine has it that he is being shifted from location to location and has ended up with gangrene in Afghanistan and maybe even dead! Whatever be the truth of those rumours, Dawood’s wings have already been clipped.

Industrialist Vijay Mallya has had to flee India and is in danger of having his Rajya Sabha berth taken away from him. His passport has been cancelled and extradition proceedings have been initiated. For the first time it appears that some of his dues may be recovered. Even as the Mallya case is going on, the Reserve Bank of India has released its list of Top 10 corporate defaulters and the Kingfisher is just ninth on the list! The focus is now on the other defaulters.

Former Home Minister P Chidambaram’s name has already come up in the Ishrat Jahan revelations, where it has been confirmed that a massive cover-up took place. As this enquiry pans out, PC, Sonia, Ahmed Patel, and former Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will all be under the scanner.

Then many new names have been added to the above list. While there was a lot of buzz around the doings of Sonia’s daughter Priyanka Vadra, the High Court of Himachal Pradesh has finally sent her a notice over a house she is constructing in Shimla.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also finds the cases piling up against him. There were a couple of Election Commission cases and also his midnight dharna. People have been approaching the courts over many alleged scams in his government. But the most high profile is the defamation suit filed by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and you can see Kejriwal is really squirming. Half a dozen AAP MLAs are out on bail over something or the other and there are dozens of cases against the party.

A photo was circulated in social media of a forlorn and defeated former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is going through a tough time after his arrest. Another former Dy CM in the form of Ajit Pawar is also under the scanner.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is in the soup over the solar scam while investigations are also on against the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, the unofficial opposition leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Veerappa Moily, former Haryana CM Bhoopinder Singh Hooda and former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan.

Even as I write this, a Special CBI court has filed criminal conspiracy charges against former Congress MP Naveen Jindal, former Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda in the Coalgate scam.

The Modi government has made the first step and that’s a good thing, though many things still are left to be desired. For one, the Central Bureau of Investigation has been under Modi for almost two years, but it still does not look strong enough in the eyes of common people. Modi should give a free hand to the CBI and we desperately need strong cases for convictions. Despite scams and scandals coming to light, very few people have gone to jail in the past. Unless concrete action is taken, scams like AugustaWestland may drift the way Bofors did.

The Enforcement Directorate has also become very active in the last few months. So a natural question to be asked is: Why was it so lethargic from 2014 to 2015? Finance Minister Jaitley has some explaining to do. The CBI-ED will now have to work overtime to catch up on all these cases and ensure convictions.

While the final verdict will be given in courts, the investigative agencies under Modi will have to make strong cases and make them fast. Lack of progress in acting on allegations on the perceived soft targets like Robert Vadra and Karti Chidambaram are hurting the government and the party badly.

Interestingly a lot of action has been initiated by Swamy who wasn’t even in the BJP when he did most of the work. Swamy and Arun Shourie have been prominent omissions in the Modi Cabinet.

The Modi government is doing really well in areas like foreign affairs, Railway reforms, road building, and power upgradation. But, its performance is not up to the mark in areas like economic and legal reforms, media management, and rural development. Defence upgradation and education reform is a mixed bag as of now and it is still “under construction” and it remains to be seen how these two areas pan out.

But as it is reaching the half-way mark of its term, there is still great opportunity to rectify all the shortcomings and secure another mandate in 2019.

  • Nothing is permanently over in politics.
She is same Sonia Gandhi who ruled from behind the scene for 10 years even when she was written off at times of Atal Vajpayee govt. Formation.
So please wait and watch. Things may change in future. Are not we same people who thought Lalu was finished?

No wonder, Modi has become intolerant. USA wants to colonise the entire world. Wherever in any country, a loyal govt to her ppl is detrimental to exploitation by these Western nations, hence by priory these govts must be destabilised and dethroned. OK. Let only the powerful survive. Amend the International Human Rights too accordingly. Lol…Hail the powerful…. no wonder, Islam wields a “Crossed Swords with a copy of Quran”.

  • Sanghi Ka Baap

Lozzzzz…… So one thing is clear from this article… Bhakts are not found in Cow belt only but across country (may be minuscule in numbers but they do exist) …..

This gentleman (writer) claims to have worked with HT and than Cyber Media .. wow…. and he happened to have in depth knowledge of everything that this government is doing against people from opposite ideologies (political adversaries)…. Sir, I would have taken you seriously if you had mentioned cases of corruption against ruling party as well…. What about Vyapam (the biggest fraud of Independent India, Rice Scam of Raman Singh, His son’s name appearing in PANAMA leaks, Vasundhra Raje scindia and her Lalit Modi connection and last but not the least Mr Nau-Dau-Mallya who met FM just day before he ran away from this country with 6 Huge bags , who made his look out notice toothless …… Its alright to be emotionally close with a person (party) but than you must not claim to be impartial … This article is filled with biased approach , lopsided fact finding and full of Love with Modi … I am sorry to disappoint you but your Yugpurush (modi) will fail miserably like he has been in all fronts since he resumed power in 2019 election (comments below are equally enlightening) …
    Thank You…

Truly soothing article because print media distorts quite a lot.

    • Cybil Peril

Because they get paid for doing so. Indian media are fastest money minting machine. All of them r presstitutes.

  • Shubhangi Raykar

I used to think that the queen bee is popular among the congressis but now I know that the glue was bribes accepted by all and sundry.

    • Cybil Peril

Wow, you didn’t know? Wonder Shubhangi. Sonia is #1 corrupt woman. She has lot to answer for but she won’t need to do so as c is a protectee of West/Vatican – the powerful forces feared even by Modi. He has no choice but grin n bear. However if Sonia is dented, that will crumble her corrupt congi brigade 4ever. India shall b delivered of monster.

  • Jitendra Desai

Unlike 2004 defeat, Modi/BJP are on course for an encore in 2019.Congress, Communists and MSM have proved to be very hasty in undermining the new govt.People/voters are not fools.Come 2018 and fat will be on real fire.

  • A dreamy kind of thing. Nothing is going to happen to anybody. Sonia , Manmohan, Ahmed Patel would face anything? specially keeping in mind the laws that India has which has the history of never punishing any politician. Do you think Sonia would run away? ha ha ha ha Can we Indian think on Right To Recall which can cure most of the political maladies. Can we think of or even discuss Trial by Jury to make corrective measures in Judiciary

  • Cybil Peril

Congi corrupts will try to murder Swamy.

    • Romi

swami is shrewd. i think he will be hard to corner physically.

      • Cybil Peril

shrewd and supari don’t match… Italy of Mussolini has enough tough nuts…

    • Shubhangi Raykar

      That is my fear too.

    • TruthAlWins

Z-plus security is in place. No worries. He is very high profile and most admired after our PM Modi ji. It will be death knell and destruction to whosoever even lift a finger on him.

  • eevajay

All these efforts of Modi Gov faces hurdles – sabotage (Probe agencies), Babudom and if crossed these hurdle, there lies the stumbling block – the Judiciary ever ready to give bails over phone calls and would thwart all attempts to nail the scamsters of the family. Lalu after being convicted for fodder scam, happily living normal life, on bail forever thanks to SC. No hope to see these scamsters behind bars.

  • P. B. Josh

What most people miss in giving credit to Modi Sarkar is, so far no major terrorist attack. Just compare what was happening during initial years of UPA government. Just to get away, they had to invent “Saffron Terror” phrase. It was just a facade to fool general public for not be able to control terrorist attacks from or with the help from Pakistan (or Bangladesh). This performance by Modi Sarkar is not from the lack of trying from the other side. Just think about Pakistani boat destruction off Porbandar coast.

    • Krispy K

I won’t be surprised if it is revealed in the future that Congress (and other “seculars”) were in active connivance with terrorists from across the border.

      • Romi

it has been found to be so, just that the presstitutes refuse to cover it.

        • Krispy K

I think scum like Chidambaram should be arrested and subjected to certain interrogation techniques. Even if they don’t reveal any useful information, their suffering would be just deserts for their crimes.

          • Romi

I agree. Thanks to the Congi bastards, the judiciary has been made so slow-moving and unwieldy, his chances of being sent to jail any time soon are anyway slim. More effective would be some old fashioned ‘pulis kay danday’ for the former …. and some slaps from policewomen would round off the experience nicely

            .

      • Shubhangi Raykar

PC’s actions make you think so.

  • Krispy K

A comforting article. It’s imperative they push forward mercilessly; it’s now or never. Not just for 2019 but for all the other years to come after.

I would particularly enjoy seeing that fraudulent rodent Kejriwal drowning in the toilet whence he originally emerged.

    • BvB09

What do you have against rodents?

      • Krispy K

This is the problem. You look at their little faces, and they look cute, and they look like they might be good affectionate, warm pets, and they will contribute to the general positive atmosphere of the home.

And then, when you take a couple home, you find out to your cost that they are clever little bastards, who will raid your fridge, defecate all over the place and attack your parrot when you are not looking, hoping that their cuteness will divert your attention from their general negative, destructive behaviour. They will even join up with an army of other rodents to blockade your kitchen and prevent you from using it. And if you try to clear them out using humane methods they will squeak cacophonously in a coordinated show of faux outrage which will just give you a headache.

Better to stick with a cat.

        • Romi

ha ha. .. excellent characterization. i hope you turn to writing if you haven’t done it already!

          • Krispy K

Look out for my next rodent-based piece. 🙂

        • BvB09

Still they are better than Kejriwal’s ilk, no?

          • Krispy K

What isn’t better than Kejriwal’s ilk?

        • si91

I laughed out loud when I read this!

          • Krispy K

            I aim to please
