And you Thought Modi Was Doing Nothing?

After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in May 2014, a lot of people have bemoaned the lack of action against the corrupt and no convictions. But the Indian system is slow and Modi cannot singlehandedly change that overnight.

swamyThere are some things which Modi is directly doing and other things that people lower down the line are acting upon thanks to the new environment that has been created. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy is also very active and though he may complain of lack of support, the new regime is definitely not hostile to him like the previous one.

A lot of behind the scenes, frenetic activity is going on and bure din (bad days) have already come for the following as serious investigations have already begun against them.

  1. Sonia Gandhi: A case was filed against the Congress President in the National Herald case and regular hearings (virtually blacked out by the media) have been going on in the last one year plus. Importantly, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also looking into it, so Swamy is not alone. British consultant Christian Michel told AgustaWestland to target Sonia’s closest advisers in the Choppergate scam. Michel had gone missing but has recently been located in Dubai. An important development is that India is currently looking into the procedure to extradite him.
  2. Dawood Ibrahim: Modi is squeezing the don’s Dubai funds and going after his accomplices there. That way his visit to the UAE was a key development. Chhota Rajan is on Indian soil and ready to co-operate. The Pakistani authorities have finally shifted out Dawood from his plush house in central Karachi to the outskirts. Former top cop Neeraj Kumar is also spilling the beans on him.
  3. Robert Vadra: Vadra’s dealings encompass Haryana, Rajasthan and New Delhi. All the police forces of these States now come under BJP leadership. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has finally bitten the bullet and promised to send Vadra to jail within six months if found guilty. Importantly, investigations into Vadra’s dealings were made weeks before Khattar made the above statement.
  4. Rahul Gandhi: Sonia is not the only accused in the National Herald case and her son, Rahul Gandhi, affectionately known as “Pappu,” is named a co-accused. He is also in the eye of the storm for declaring himself a British citizen as revealed by Swamy. If this case goes into a court of law, he may not be able to get away on claims of a mere “typing error”. The ball is in Modi’s court now as he has all the investigating agencies with him now.
  5. Shahrukh Khan: Not many people know that Rose Valley Chairman Gautam Kundu, who had stakes in King Khan’s IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, was arrested some time back. The ED has also been sending notices to SRK regularly (the earlier ones SRK ignored) and finally brought him in for questioning regarding KKR shares.
  6. Lalit Modi: Here’s the thing: this former IPL head honcho was never accused of anything by UPA. However, now the ED is seeking Interpol’s help to extradite him and formally press charges. If he finally comes to India it may be Congress leaders who may find themselves squirming.
  7. Vijay Mallya: ED is looking into a money laundering case against this high flying industrialist and the State Bank of India has declared him a “wilful defaulter”. The endgame is upon Mallya.
  8. NDTV: There have been many whispers about this on Twitter for ages, but finally the ED has slapped a ₹ 2030 crore FEMA violation case against it. Those complaining that Modi is soft on the mainstream media should watch this with interest.
  9. P Chidambaram: ED has also sent notices to directors of a firm linked to the former Central Minister’s son Karti Chidambaram’s role in the 2G case. Karti’s name also came in Pappu’s UK companies’ scam and there are rumours of Chidambaram being scrutinized even further.
  10. Kalanithi Maran: Court appeals have managed to keep this DMK leader out of jail. He is accused of having an illegal telephone exchange in his home (the sheer audacity of it all!) and the CBI is breathing down his neck. The Supreme Court did not give him relief when it came to questioning though.
  11. Teesta Setalvad: She has been attacking Modi for more than a decade, but this agenda-driven activist finally finds herself at the centre of police investigations. Court appeals have kept her out of jail and her NGO is under scrutiny for financial irregularities. To make matters worse even her lawyer Indira Jaising has been linked with funds from the Ford Foundation.
  12. Peter Mukerjea: This powerful man (former CEO of Star TV India) with powerful friends (across all parties) has finally been arrested about three months after the Sheena Bora murder case broke out. A lot of people thought that the police would never have the guts to arrest him, but they have been proved wrong.
  13. Greenpeace: Greenpeace International is a powerful international lobbying group which has done many agitations against various Indian governments and been accused of being anti-development. It now finds its license cancelled though it is getting temporary relief from courts. Even if it comes back, it will find its wings severely clipped.
  14. Ford Foundation: It’s really under the scanner after it was found that several of its past donations have been dubious in nature. For decades thousands of NGOs operated in India with scant regard to law and financial paperwork. This was a raging problem that led to many problems. However, now, the accountability factor of all NGOs has gone up after Modi took charge of the nation.
  15. Mamata Banerjee: The Saradha scam has already seen the arrests of dozens of Trinamool leaders and party functionaries. Two MPs and a State Minister are already in the dock and fingers are being pointed at Mamata who has grown awfully quiet of late.
  16. Virbhadra Singh: The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister is in a soup and has been the target of regular raids in money laundering and disproportionate assets cases. The High Court has just about prevented him from going to jail, but he has to face interrogation nonetheless.
  17. Ashok Gehlot: After being out of power, this former Rajasthan Chief Minister finds his name in the CBI’s ambulance scam along with former Central Minister and rising star Sachin Pilot. Both the present and future of the Rajasthan Congress under cloud.
  18. Shashi Tharoor: The Sunanda Pushkar death case was virtually closed under UPA but is now a murder case with this former Central Minister under the scanner.
  19. Mayawati: The CBI questioned the BSP supremo in the Rs 5,000-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scandal. She may not get away as lightly as she did last time in the Taj corridor and disproportionate assets cases. The other big political figure in the State, Mulayam Singh Yadav is also on the tenterhooks because the CBI can still pursue his disproportionate assets case despite the earlier closure.
  20. Jayalalithaa: A case from the 1990s finally saw conviction in the Modi Raj. Co-incidence or not you decide. Either way the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister went to jail for a few weeks and had to vacate her chair briefly. And it’s not over yet. While the High Court has given her relief, the Supreme Court Damocles Sword still hangs over her.

Bonus: Some time back the sensational Swiss Leaks happened where a whistle blower alleged that HSBC was helping Indians with black money. And now HSBC has announced that it is shutting down its private banking India operations. You are free to draw your own conclusions.

Postscript

As it is said, the Indian judicial system takes years and years and the first step is the most important. It is possible that we may see 20 more names in 2016-17 and convictions may start coming in 2018-19, perfect for Modi’s re-election campaign. Bure din has definitely come for the corrupt in India.

LOL ! Feku could not get even one person convicted on this entire list in 3 years 😀 😀 He is going on cooking up new Jumlas and is now back to openly dividing the country on religion again.

  2. Vinita says:

Issue is we only keep hearing about investigations happening. Where are the results? Prolonged investigations, we all know, are one way of not bringing the guilty to justice. If Mr.Modi is really serious about tackling corruption then he, as the Prime Minister, has to be expedite investigations and get the Courts to expedite hearings in such major corruption scandals. Now, the entire nation is watching what Mr.Modi and BJP do in Agusta Westland. It is not so much the Congress at trial here, as the BJP.

Its their agenda of creating a sense of loss in some weak hearted RW, loose interest and such stay away on Polling day. Mediacrooks really suffering health condition and is immobile for now. However his blogs always give direction for everyone.

Only Hinduism allows Bhakts to Qn their God, seek answers, but such freedom seldom seen in Dynasty Slaves or Fuehrer Tards. If any dares to qn, they meet fate of Bhushan, Yadav or MLA Pushkar or MP Gandhi. Dont we remember how badly PVNRao treated by Dynasty?

Having said it, I appreciate the author for collating al the actions taken so far by Modi Govt against Corrupt Crony ConMen. However, none of these will take them to jail, as Judiciary works overtime to keep anti India forces active. Best example, Bail on Phone for Teesta. Judiciary feared for Modi and so blatantly rejected NJAC and retained corrupt collegium. No hope with Judiciary.

  5. Poda De says:

It is shocking that Indian media is so silent on these facts unless the tactic is to come out with a bang after the completion of all the investigations and in the meanwhile avoiding the running commentary.

  6. Tiruvalluvar says:

If he is doing all this then he is not getting any support in RS. No support in RS means no GST. Modi will not let that derail because GST amendment is important need for the country. He will have to make compromises with some of the corrupt.

  7. Invictus Jo says:

See the comments below and judge for yourself how much faith Modis disappointed followers have in his efforts to deliver justice to these crooks.

    Modi, Modi, Blah, Blah, Blah.

Narendra Modi has not changed everything as this article claims. He is yet to respond properly to the Desh Drohi forces who have gathered strength under Arun Jaitley’s tutelage. Possibly the worldly Jaitley arrogates himself to be PM material someday when Modi is deposed. Poor Jaitley does not realize that all his friends will become his mortal enemies the day after he becomes PM. He will then be stabbed front and back just like all others in the past. That unfortunately is the end of story for all Hindu Drohis and Desh Drohis in India. I hope Modi wakes up soon or 2019 will be history.

I mentioned in a post somewhere in 2014 that Modi needs to govern as if everyday was his last day in office – meaning, he needed to have the sense of urgency to seek out and destroy the “Breaking India” forces that were enormously powerful and gathering even more awesome power. Instead he frittered away his days in rhetoric and foreign jaunts. Now when faced with the total destructive power of the Breaking India forces in Delhi and Bihar, he lost. Yet he has not
    learned.

Unless he fights them in their own turf which is the Desh Drohi media, he won’t win. Jaitley is a Desh Deohi himself as I alluded above and hence Modi has the wrong man for the job.

    #FIREJAITLEYNOW!!

Modi’s only hope is a hope and a prayer but hope is not a winning strategy. I wish him luck. He will need it.

You mentioned in 2014? oh i believe 1.3 billion indians missed listening to you. lol. where do you people come from? I am really interested to meet morons like you, somehow you people are all over internet, but never expose during conversations. Amazing ya.

You could narrow it down from a 1.3 billion to less than 100 as the most probable number mathematically to read and comment here

Bure din come for corrupt?!! Not yet seen!! With all ammunition available for the past five years, no obvious attempt is in the air!

  10. slayer98 says:

without punishing the guilty no amount of economic reforms would add value to the country. The very same looters and mafias who may form next govt would enjoy it. Common people as usual would bore the brunt. The good clean government would be in the opposition clamour for corrupt free govt. A cyclical vicious repetition! what a fate with the prevalent judicial system!

  11. JK says:

We saw die hard fan and supporter of Modiji for few years his blog site name was Mediacrook, even very core idea of starting online Pro-Hindu website too was coined by him, ultimately which is today known as Indiafact.co.in.

He too has stopped writing blogs and tweeting citing health reason, shows he has sensed defeat of same power for which he contributed much by exposing MSM badly and turned all stone hurled at Modiji during 2014 election as a steps for Modiji march to Delhi.

But there are still Bhakthas left who feel Modiji will do something great in fact he turned out to be foreign Prime Minister of India he spent more time in foreign countries than in our country especially during parliament session he is always on foreign tour.

What author failed to mention is that with NDTV Saga P.Chidambaram name too is linked so penalty just on NDTV is washing away crime committed by those who committed. Author can ask Madhu Kishwar for more details on this case.

We Indians allowed several politicians enjoy during there 5 Years of tenure, so let Modiji and his Backdoor entries from Rajya Sabha also enjoy by being in cabinet.

2019 will see the worst polling rate in Indian History because Middle class have been pissed with Taxes one after other taxes same time reducing interest rate on Fixed Deposits. Govt want to compensate those money invested in opening account for poor with Middle classes hard earned money same time want poor people to be given with LPG. Poor will like to remain poor. SwachBharat taxing on every transaction is very bad idea by this Govt.

This will once again give rise to Chit fund business like Ponzey schemes and money power house will make money and run away. Educated people will of India will be made migrant standing in long queue for jobs on foreign soils by our own politicians! Instead of improving condition of living present govt is hell bent on deteriorating it and destroying it.

    • Slasher says:

You can do something about this state of affairs.

We can grab Modi by the ear and bring him to the Table if we do this.

I know of at least 10 Economists who are world class and sitting in India and Abroad waiting for Modi’s beck and call to come and serve the Watan.

Instead what does Modi do? He gives a Lawyer who can’t tell the difference between Agri Futures markets and High Frequency Trading without getting into a contortionist position about what they mean.

Mr. Modi: YOU WANT TO BE ELECTED AGAIN?

FIRE ARUN JAITLEY AS FINANCE AND IB MINISTER NOW!! HE IS A BACKSTABBING MEDIA DARLING AND A WORTHLESS ECONOMIST!!

ANY DAY I WOULD TAKE A BIMAL JALAN OR A RANGARAJAN OVER ARUN JAITLEY!!

Start posting this on Twitter hashtag #FIREJAITLEYNOW
      To get Mr. Modi’s attention.

Otherwise there is no way to save Modi’s future and by extension, India’s Future!

      • JK says:

Since Last few months back when ever I used to Log-In to my Twitter Account by the time I finish reading 2 or 3 Tweet messages on Top cluster of Tweets around 70 to 80 sometime 100+ used to remain in unread state. I could hardly read all of them due to bulk tweets and most of them used to be Pro-Modi Tweets but I was surprised on Sunday I was Logged-In to my Account and in 4 hours I could see only 20 Odd tweets and that’s all and very few Chamchas who are looking for some favor from GOI where tweeting & Buttering on Tweeter as Pro-Modi supporters. This itself shows once supporters of Modiji on SM have decided not to be with Modiji anymore.

Modiji is more self focused persons and all his Slogan or India First which he used to garner vote turned out to be mere rhetoric. Now he has placed Bharat Matha behind him and running after a Constitution.

Modiji will never throw out Arun Jaitley from his cabinet you can save this comment. If he even tries to do that Modiji will be branded as dictator by AJ’s fan club from MSM. Modiji knows it very well.

        • NK Sarma says:

since you are not a bhakta or chamcha, you can just wait for another 4 years and rejoice after Rahul Gandhiji becomes PM and brings in all in all prosperity and pride to all of us. We waited for 70+years, I’m sure another 4 yrs will fly quickly. Afterall, 1 yr is already over. Modi’s future is not India’s future, I’m sure PMji of next govt will make this country like singapore next time. It will be like a fresh start, like going back to 2014.

          • JK says:

I have already commented that 2019 will see worst polling rate in Indian history and it will be because of disappointment of middle class caused by non other than Modiji who showed them stars and moons during campaign, so neither BJP nor congress will have good number of seats.

BJP may not even get double digit seats, at least congress can bank of Minority votes.

2019 will see regional players @center…….

          • NK Sarma says:

Congress did not have good number of seats even in 2014, but they formed govt. So Rahulji can still become PMji with the help of secular regional visionaries like mulayamji, laluji, jayaji, didiji, behanji and abdullaji. Regional players will definitely make India wealthy and peaceful than this modiji. Afterall we have seen it during Devagowdaji’s and vpsinghji’s and chandrasekarji’s and gujralji’s times before. I’m sure you can look forward to get that golden period in 2019.

  12. Nishant Avasthi says:

Many Modi supporters are getting impatient about the “so called inaction”. But people need to understand that neither Modi ji Nor Swamy Nor anyone else can do something from outside the system. The system itself has to clean itself up from within and prosecute these criminals. And that is what Swamy and Modi ji are trying to do.
Remember this is a democracy and it is within the framework of democracy that the solution has to be found for the future.

    • Slasher says:

It does not matter if MODI is doing great, great things that the people are too stupid to see. It just does not matter.
Perception is reality for most human beings and is applicable to masses.

MODI will fail – in fact, I predict that he will fail even more dramatically before his term ends. The Breaking India forces will ensure that.

The Hindu Drohi and Desh Drohi Forces are too powerful and he has either underestimated them or he has understood their power and is cowering like a Coward. Either way, he needs to do a MASSIVE Course Correction now. The first thing he needs to do is to bring Ghar Wapasi back. The second he needs to do is to speak out against the Desh Drohis and bring cases against them. The Desh Drohis are parading in the open knowing that Modi is gutless to stop them. Modi needs to show he has guts. Third, he needs to focus 100% on issues that are near and ear to Hindus such as UPC, Kashmir, etc. Otherwise, all his foreign jaunts and economic hullabulloo will not make a difference in Votes.

Remember, people in India don’t vote with their pocket books as the West do. They vote with their hearts.

Don’t believe me? Study election history in India.

      • Nishant Avasthi says:

If that is the case, we the ones who fought tooth and nail in 2014, in Social media/on the ground/at booth levels , need to UP the tempo right away. Giving up is not going to help !!

        • Slasher says:

          Nishant:
Time to start a Hashtag in Twitter called #FIREJAITLEYNOW and let it start trending to send a STRONG message to the NamakHaraam Arun Jaitley who is stabbing Modi in the back.
Once that starts trending, Modi will understand that we, the people are extremely pissed at the way his #2 man is acting and behaving with the Desh Drohi Media. Remember, it is Jaitley’s job to bring these Desh Drohis and Benami Media barons to keel. If Sonia could do it today (The Intolerance Media Frenzy) while being out of power, then what more proof do I need to offer about The COMPLETE LACK of action from Jaitley?

  13. SJK says:

At least one of them needs to be in jail already to silence some supporters turned critics.

  14. Harish Inamdar says:

Can’t quite agree.. Had any one of these Maa-Beta-Damaad were thrown into the jail, PM wouldn’t have to beg before these italian for GST passage.

    • Jishnu says:

Had a case been filed, forget chargesheet or launching a CBI inquiry, you would see the whole media-lib-acad mafia go up in arms how vindictive the govt is, how anti-democratic it is and what not. And most of the semi-liberal outfits that masquerade as right wing barring the few “hardliners” would try preaching the PM to “go slow”.

      • Balakrishna Sastry says:

They have been screaming vindictiveness, intolerance and such crap anyway. And the public would have LOVED Modi for going hard after the crooks, world opinion and Congress opinion be damned. Now, most of us are frustrated that crooked Arun “Jai Italy” seems to be partially running the show. People wanted Modi, not half Modi, half Jaitley.

        • Jishnu says:

I am not very sure. After all the BJP has the disease of craving enemy’s acceptance and ungratefully letting down its support base. So while a big section of people would have encouraged if it went after the rogues, BJP has its own “checks and balances” to prevent itself from looking the wrong way for approval. The other side would naturally call the govt intolerant.

But the other side: much of the “civil disobedience” in India around the intolerance is a very carefully orchestrated propaganda by foreign funded ngos and western govts are behind these. I suspect the govt has something significant preventing it from acting on the roman catholic mafia.

    • surbhee says:

comenting that maa beta damaad should be in jail is easy. it requires alot sensible procedure n tactics. decisions cannot b taken in rage so easily as it can harm. congress is corrupted-agreed by this. but dey might be doing some good work also in other states, villages or cities which v r unaware of. Being a p.m, modiji has to look for welfare as a whole not in parts. INSTEAD, v all educated indians should support d good ideology and promote. if v promote den only d rest all classes of public will understand d motive of p.m ..!

In my opinion, this is too little sir….and a frankly a little late……SoGa is already preparing for a 2019 comeback and if the ‘authorities’ feel that NaMo will not make it, they’ll go overboard and conceal the incriminating evidence..

Regarding the justice system, little said – the better. They are hand in glove with the corrupt and open up windows to escape even when the Govt corners the accused.

    • Concard_007 says:

Too early to say SoGa or Raga making a come back in 2019. All this intolerance BS and 10 lakh suit BS can only go so far. You can ratchet it up these issues for 1 or 2 days or even a week but they cannot be election issues. After Bihar defeat Modi seems to have gotten the message. That is why he is liberalizing economy at break neck speed and sending ED notices as the article says to lot of corrupts. I won’t be rejoicing until they end up in jail though. All these notices might as well be just for silencing them and giving them a message of consequences that could happen if they wag their tail. So I won’t be smiling until the eggs are hatched.

3 years is a long time in politics. 2014 was the year of BJP electoral successes which they themselves never dreamed of. Obviously that power has gone into their heads very quickly and they have become arrogant. By now hopefully they would have realized they can’t play the cards in the same way they did until now, mainly dragging Modi to every state election campaign. From now on the success of BJP depends on state units. BJP has Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, MP, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Goa, J & K and AP. The last two being coalition, still BJP holds sway in J & K and AP is doing very well under Chandra Babu and is always expected to support BJP at the center. No matter how awful BJP state units are, it is expected BJP will win small states of Uttarakhand, Himachal, Karnataka as all these 3 have unpopular governments and CMs. It is for BJP to lose these states by screwing up big time. And they have potential to win Assam and UP. And they should not be expecting anything other than being main opposition party in Punjab, WB and possibly TN by exploiting the vacuum left by DMK. In Punjab, by breaking off with SAD ofcourse. I am interested to see how Amit Shah rises to the challenge. That should set things straight whether he is a fluke or electoral genius in the coming years. 73 seats in UP in 2014 was tremendous result, but lot of things were going for him like Modi wave, unpopular Congi government, riots etc. Let us see how Modi and Amit Shah ride their ship in next 3 years.
