Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took the reins of the Delhi administration, its ministers–starting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal–have distinguished themselves with making crass statements on issues of vital public importance.
Here is a small collection of these statements:
AAP poster campaign – If you continue to vote for the corrupt this time too, women will continue to be raped.
Manish Sisodia’s defence of the poster campaign – The poster is correct. These people are only interested in corruption. What it means is that someone interested only in corruption does not care for people’s issues like women’s safety.
Arvind Kejriwal – They say I am an anarchist. Yes, I am. Today, I will create anarchy for Mr Shinde.
Somnath Bharti – I want to spit at the faces of BJP leader Arun Jaitley and senior lawyer Harish Salve to tell them to mend their ways… I warn you, the public is going to hound you and beat you.
Somnath Bharati responding to a reporter who asked, “There’s a demand you be sacked, will you resign on moral grounds?” Somnath retorted, “How much money have you been paid by [Narendra] Modiji?”
Manish Sisodi – “You are asking for lawful protests over a young girl being burnt, wait till your daughter is burnt (he tells Ashok Malik on NDTV’s show The Buck Stops Here).
Kumar Vishwas on Sania Mirza – “Nothing wrong with getting married. She couldn’t get ahead in her profession, so she decided to try her luck in another field…If she wanted to marry a ‘hitter’, she could have married someone from India, why did she go all the way to Pakistan?”
Earlier in 2008, he had cracked cheap jokes about the ‘dark-skinned, scrawny’ nurses from Kerala, at a similar function.
