1. Kullu’s ancient Shangchul Mahadev temple burns to the ground
Report: The historic temple of Shangchool Mahadev and three four-storey houses were destroyed in a devastating fire at Patahar village in the Sainj valley. All ornaments and stock of the temple were destroyed, however, the rath (palanquin) of the deity was preserved.
2. 800 Valmikis ‘convert’ to Islam to save their homes
Report: To save their homes from demolition, around 800 Valmikis in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh converted to Islam on Tuesday, reported an English daily.
According to the report, civic authorities allegedly painted red marks on their houses, which created a panic situation among people. According to Valmikis, the demolition of their houses would pave for building a mall in the area which is said to have the backing of UP minister Azam Khan.
3. Anti-Indian, Anti-Hindu, Anti-Pandit protests of JKLF and Hurriyat Conference rocked Kashmir valley again.
Report: Many people were injured in clashes between police and Yasin Malik’s JKLF supporters, who were protesting after Friday Namaj against the proposed “composite townships” for displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the valley.
Police in crisis resorted to lathicharge and used tear gas shells as soon as the protesters led by JKLF leader Yasin Malik reached near Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk in the afternoon with hundreds of his supporters. Later, a group of youth pelted stones at the police and paramilitary personnel, leading to clashes which lasted nearly one hour.
These are the reasons I constantly encourage people to do qualitative research on these sensitive, controversial and politically charged matters: like conversions. Few reliable and meaningful data are available even as people get highly emotional. irrational, defensive and reactive on this issue.
It is interesting how people disenfranchised, partly by casteism, classism and/or elitism no doubt, once courted by Dravidian politics in Madras Presidency region, united under “anti-Brahminism, anti-Arayanism (made up nonsense), anti-Hindiism, anti-casteism and later anti-Hinduism” to help empower them and remove poverty in their lives. Did that happen….though their representatives are the majority and in power for the last 60 years? This anti-Brahminism and anti-Hinduism (though there are connections and differences between the two, as there are between many sects within Hinduism) later turned into Atheism and Communism. Did that remove poverty, economic insecurity, social inequality and disparity in Tamil Nadu? Now the same group, struggling with poverty or social inequality, is converting to Christianity or Islam….For what?
Continuous conversion from one political, cultural, social and/or religious position to another has become a “pattern of protest, protest of discontent or a tool of manipulation” for some groups.
There is a joke I heard: He converted first for food and water. Then he converted for a shelter and education. Then he converted again for health and wealth. Then he converted to yet another religion for identity and roots. Then he converted to another again for social approval and popularity. Then he converted for rights and dignity. Then he converted for political power and authority. Then he converted for absolute power and cosmic control.
Like some people addicted to plastic surgery…some Indians are addicted to conversions. I find this strange and difficult to fathom. It is a bizarre psychology. Come to Tamil Nadu…I feel sometimes I am with people who speak Tamil, look Tamil and dress Tamil…but their mind is very bizarre and alien. The seem to be totally comfortable with Arabic Islam though they are not Muslims, and claim to Dravidian Atheists or Communists, and they literally support behaviors one might find in the anarchy of current Sudan or dictatorships of past Yemen.
What research do we have on the social and psychological uniqueness of “repeat converters”?

Varadarajan, Hindus (this includes forward castes, lower castes or no caste) have to stop calling anyone outside their economic status, or outside their approved status, “riff raffs”. This is why Hinduism is becoming an “ism” of “narrow patriarchal feudal macho men” whose puritanism and pretentious morality is driving away many people whose presence and participation in Hinduism helps the community (become more sophisticated in knowledge, capabilities, genetic strength and diversity, efficiency and effectiveness).
Here is an example of 4 people who converted because of Hindu rigidity, patriarchy and stupidity…
1) A poor teen who ran away from home because of beatings from his father and his mother’s inability to protect him. He was a kid with a spirit of adventure and health curiosity that got him into trouble in school and in the neighborhood…that was rigid, compliant and autocratic. In stead of getting help and support from the community, and his father receiving counseling for his authoritarianism, the kid was advised, attacked and antagonistically treated. Church came to his support, he converted and now he runs a major mechanical shop…and is nearly one crore in wealth. Hindus need to show more psychological sensitivity…beyond family loyalty, duty and conformity.
2) A strong educated sophisticated Hindu woman refused to put up with her deceiving crude cruel unfaithful Indian Hindu husband. She left him with her pride and dignity intact. In stead of understanding her, appreciating her and supporting her the Hindu community ostracized her, ill treated her and the cheap women, in her middle class neighborhood, gossipped about her. She applied to a Ph.D program, got her degree, got an excellent job and converted to Christianity when she met a very nice Christian man who married her, adored her, respected her and supported. her. Hindu men think they can keep hurting, insulting, humiliating and being rude to HIndu women…and somehow smart strong Hindu women will ignore it or will hang around in spite of it. Look at some of the idiots who comment on these online weblogs with rudeness and crudeness to their own Hindu women. How long can one put with that nonsense?
3) A very smart entrepreneur could not get loans or funds for his idea from a bank. So he applied to the church for funds and gave it to him. They simply asked him to come to the church and thank Jesus of his business venture succeeded. After five years his business venture did succeed and he went to the church, thanked Jesus, gave a huge contribution and later converted. So did his wife. I find it strange how many banks turn down request for loans to start mental health practice when so many in the community are actually dying off poor mental health, or becoming a burden to the community because of poor (but solvable) mental health problems.
4) One Hindu gay man, who was once an evolved spiritual man, got beaten by people when he revealed the fact that he was gay. He did not become spiritual because of his gayness (like some gurus)…but he pursued what was true to his heart irrespective of his sexual orientation. But Hindus rejected him, and now he teaches yoga to the church members. They benefit from all his advice and guidance, and some are also using yogic powers to attack Hindus.
Hindus in India have no vision other than imported corporate masala, or Western model of development. It is like they cannot even come up with their own intelligent theories except for American capitalism, European mercantilism or Marxian, Russian or Chinese communism.
So…they keep eliminating everybody who does not fit their narrow definition of the “insider”…not knowing who is a true riff raff and who is truly intelligent or just different.
So be careful when you use that word.

People who change religions like changing shirts are those I call riffraff.The group changed religion to save their houses (unauthorised) reconverted back when their houses are not demolished.
Change of faith like this is silly.
And who are you to tell me not to express my opinion? Why hide behind initials.?Only cowards take shelter like this.If you are a real person after social upliftment, why not try to comment on other religions first that treat women like commodities?
